Whispers of a new cigar from RoMa Craft, called Neanderthal, were heard at IPCPR 2013... Samples were seen at IPCPR 2014... Fast forward to today, and the cigar is finally on our shelf!
Neanderthal, RoMa Craft's strongest cigar to date, began with RoMa co-founder Skip Martin working with a Pennsylvania Double Ligero tobacco, a regrowth of PA Broadleaf, named Green Valley Sucker One. The leaf's significantly higher nicotine level provided the spark for Skip's blend, and the rest of the choice tobaccos - Condega, Jalapa, Pueblo Nuevo and Esteli filler, Dominican Olor filler, a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro binder, and a San Andres Maduro wrapper - really helped to round out the flavor and aroma needed to make this a balanced and standout cigar. This isn't just a nicotine-delivery vehicle, although it's absolutely, no joke no foolin', one of the strongest cigars we've ever put to our lips.
But oh, man, the flavors! If this doesn't sound good to you, get yourself checked out by a doctor: rich coffee, spicy cayenne pepper, fresh pecan, dark baker's chocolate, charred oak, sharp cinnamon, salty earth, cream, plum, tannic tea, rye bread, mineral and grilled meat. It's a beautiful bounty of strong, distinct and delectable notes.
We can't commend Skip enough for developing a blend that oozes flavor as well as strength, and we heartily recommend this cigar, but it goes without saying that if you aren't interesting in riding the nicotine dragon, stay away from this one. At the very least make sure you have a nice, cold, sugared drink next to you to combat any hallucinations you might experience!
