The Wise Man "El Gueguense" by Foundation Cigar Company
Nick Melillo. Some of you might recognize his name, but many of you probably don't. That's about to change. Who is Nick? For the past few years his business card read "Executive VP of International Operations, Drew Estate". Yeah, not too shabby. Not only did he work on the blends that became DE's uber-popular Liga Privada No.9, T52, and Undercrown lines, but his personal cigar at La Gran Fabrica ended up being produced as a Unico that you might have heard of called Dirty Rat.
Yeah, the dude has good taste.
The debut line from his newest venture, Foundation Cigar Company, is El Gueguense (pronounced "wah-when-say"). El Gueguense is Nicaragua's beloved work of folklore, a stage-play combination of dancing, music, art and theater, and that expression of the country's history is represented in this Nicaraguan Puro which uses a Corojo 99 Jalapa (Finca Puntalito) wrapper, a Corojo 99 Jalapa (Finca San Jose) binder, and a blend of Corojo 99 and Criollo 98 filler leaf from Esteli and Jalapa - all of which are aged AGANORSA tobaccos. Nick set out to blend an intensely rich, deeply complex, immensely flavorful and elegant cigar, one that balanced honey sweetness with pepper spice and earthy cedar, and this was the end result. Additional notes of nut, candied cherry, caramel, and chocolate just put this blend over the top.
